Sofia's first school field trip
Sofia had another milestone this past week - her very first school field trip. And it was awesome. I couldn't tell between the two of us who was more excited to go too. The class went to Highland Orchards in West Chester where they were able to experience a little bit of what goes on around the farm.
After some play and regrouping by the playground, we went into the warehouse where the freezers are and Aunt Dottie explained to the kids (and parents too) the process the apples go through on the farm. We walked through the thick door and into the freezer and saw apples piled high in baskets. Sofia was quick to tell me she didn't like it in there because it was too cold.
Afterwards, we went into the "classroom" and Aunt Dottie showed the class how an apple press works and each kid took a turn at working the press. In the same classroom, we all enjoyed the fresh apple cider and amazingly fresh, like straight-outta-the-fryer-fresh, apple spice donuts. Talk about good. I told Anthony that they give Krispy Kreme a good run for the money.
No complaints coming from Sofia as she enjoys her donut.
Then while we waited for our tractor hayride to the orchards, the kids ran around and played some more and fed the goats...
and took turns at taking their measurements.
Finally, it was time to load up into the tractor. Sofia was amazed at how big the wheels were.
We took a ride out to the orchards where Uncle Chuck, our driver, explained to us how the trees are maintained, which apples to pick and how to pick them. Sofia was all about picking the apples and eating them on the spot. I loved this picture of her hand resting on my leg while on the ride back from the orchards on the hayride.
Uncle Chuck, how adorable is he?!?

My big girl on her first field trip. How did we get here so fast?

Mama's girl. Best morning with my girl. Really enjoyed having the one on one time with Sofia and getting to experience this together.
