Ostuni, La Citta Bianca

Not too far from Mesagne is Ostuni, La Citta Bianca or The White City, rightly called since most of the older section of Ostuni is painted in a very bright white. It's a gorgeous old town with a lot of great alleyways and parks. A friend of ours owns a little shop right near a park and off we went on a little adventure.

Mom was in the shop talking to our friend and since the girls were running around like crazy in there, Zio Antonio and I decided to keep them outside for brief intervals. Talk about letting a bull loose in a china shop. More like a toddler and preschooler loose in a formaggio shop. Ooh, did I forget to mention that our friend owns a formaggio shop, yummy!?!

Yeah, she's pretty cute. Think we'll keep her.

Olivia couldn't get enough of the beaded tendas everywhere in Italy. Talk about hours of fun for little ones.

Antonio and I with Tommaso, the owner of the shop

The girls are basically little mice so setting them loose in a formaggio shop is about the happiest you could make them.

Olivia, Nonna Lisa and the owner's dad, how adorable is he?

A quick walk from the shop is a little park where we decided to have our lunch that day. Tommaso's father came with us, for protection he said. After all, my mom was traveling through town with only kids and no male escort. I love the way his generation thinks!

The girls thought he was cute though and enjoyed sitting with him awhile.

You basically cannot travel through an Italian park (villa) and not see older men sitting around. They're either deep in conversation and talking quietly or being very loud and boisterous. It's hysterical. And I love it and take pictures of it often because it just totally sums up what older Italian men do while the wives are home preparing the meal.

Really? These guys were so cute!
