La Befana

"La Befana vien di notte,
con le scarpe tutte rotte.
E la vesta alla romana,
Viva, Viva La Befana!"

Growing up in Italy, we looked forward to the arrival of La Befana every year. She visits the homes of all children on the eve of the Feast of the Epiphany and the legend goes that she is searching for baby Jesus. She does not find him but leaves candies or toys for the good girls and boys along her journey. Hopefully in the coming years, this holiday will be something both Sofia and Olivia look forward to as well.

She showed up at our house last night and left a gift for each of us. La Befana left Sofia coloring books and new crayons and left Olivia a new rattle. Nonna Lisa, Nonno Nicky and Zio Antonio got the girls a new book for the holiday too, Big Sister, Little Sister. It's an adorable book about all of the highs and lows of sisterly affection. I got teary-eyed reading through it actually.

La Befana was good to Anthony and I too and left us this fun game:

We bought it for my family for Christmas and have had so much fun playing it at their house. It really brings me back to middle and high school when Scott and I would play the original Super Mario Bros. on our Nintendo.

Buona Befana a tutti!

  1. How fun! I think if i got Super Mario Brothers for our Wii, I would spend as many hours now as I did back then on nintendo playing it. And that scares me :)
